Customizable FTP Certificate Management

hidden Gathering votes

Currently, CloudStick issues its own self-signed certificate for the FTP service, which includes pre-filled and often unattractive information within the certificate itself. This can result in an unprofessional appearance and potential trust issues for end-users accessing the FTP service.

Suggested Fix:

  1. Allow Custom Certificate Reissuance:

Provide users with the ability to reissue the self-signed certificate to match the server’s hostname.
Enable users to input custom certificate details, such as the organization name, town, country, and other relevant information. This customization will ensure the certificate better reflects the user's brand and organizational identity.

  1. Integrate Let's Encrypt for Automatic Certificate Issuance:

Implement an option for users to automatically issue a Let's Encrypt certificate for the FTP service. This would simplify the process of obtaining a trusted certificate, enhancing security and trust without manual intervention.

  1. Create a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) Feature:

Offer a tool that allows users to generate a CSR directly within CloudStick. This CSR can then be used to obtain a commercial certificate from a third-party Certificate Authority (CA). Users can upload the issued certificate back into CloudStick to replace the default self-signed certificate.

Benefit:

  • Enhances the professionalism and trustworthiness of the FTP service.
  • Provides greater flexibility and customization for users.
  • Simplifies the process of obtaining a trusted SSL certificate, whether through Let's Encrypt or a commercial CA.
